The Emergence of Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj Seva Sansthan, Mehkar
Dist- Buldhana- 443301.
Shegaon, known as Vidharbhachi Pandhari, is closely linked to Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj, a 20th- century saint dedicated to serving the people of the region. Located on the central railway track between Mumbai and Kolkata for the past 150 years, Shegaon is a revered pilgrimage site. To address the challenges of overcrowding and time constraints for darshan, various organizations in the district and Maharashtra have constructed smaller Gajanan Maharaj Temples. In 1997-98, Chairman Mr. Shyam Umalkar and colleagues acquired 2 acres of land on the Nagpur-Pune highway, leading to the establishment of Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj Seva samittee Mehkar, registered under the Charitable Commission Act.
In the initial years, basic events were organized using a photo frame of Shri Gajanan Maharaj. In 2000, guided by spiritual leaders, the construction of a two-story octagonal temple began in Mehkar town.
The unique design places the idol on the first floor, allowing distant darshan for all, including passersby. The marble idol, installed on February 1, 2000, stands 52 inches (4.5 feet) in height, with blessings from Shri Kakasaheb Maharaj of Malkapur and other monks.- Shri Gajanan Maharaj Birth Anniversary in February.
- Shri Gajanan Maharaj Death Anniversary (Rushi Panchami).
- Shri Ram Navami.
- Gudi Padava.

- World Parayan (Prayer) Day.
To enhance the temple surroundings, the Seva Samittee has developed a beautiful garden, a children’s play area, and a walking track for senior citizens, catering to visitors of all ages. Additionally, yoga and other activities are offered.
In 2011, the Service Committee made a significant decision, leading to the construction of a spacious mansion known as BHKTA NIWAS. This facility, covering 14,000 square feet, includes a 1,300-square-foot kitchen and 20 air-conditioned rooms. It serves various purposes, from hosting wedding ceremonies to public programs for government officers, schools, and the Mehkar Municipal Corporation.
